Bad weather in August and September last year delayed the playing of the 2007 Fife Cup Final countless times, and so it transpired that Falkland and Dunfermline met last weekend.
Dunfermline overcame a competitive Falkland total by 5 wickets, but it was done with only three balls to spare.
Falkland batted first. Kevin Chapman played some stylish shots in an agressive 32, whilst Graeme Watson picked up a bullish 20. Once again, however, after a good start, the Falkland middle order fell quickly against some clever bowling, particularly from Sumi Eadeala who picked up 4 for 24. Vasu Reddy bowled with guile and agression to take 2-16, and Falkland eventually finished on 114 for 9 in their alloted 20 overs.
Good bowling from Falkland ensured that Dunfermline had to work very hard to make inroads in their reply. The dangerous Vasu Reddy was dispatched before getting into double figures, falling to a fine direct hit runout by 16 year old Geordie Gallagher. Wickets fell at important points for Falkland, just as Dunfermline batsmen were getting going. Chapman bowled an excellent four over spell, conceding only seven runs, taking one wicket. The evergreen Mike Watson also bowled consistently, picking up 2 for 30 in his four.
Despite a good bowling performance from Falkland, Dunfermline crept closer to the target. Arafat scored 37 and Matt Jones 33, and it was eventually another 16 year old , Adam Ferguson, who scored the winning runs off the third ball of the last over.
Sumi Eadeala picked up the 'Man of the Match' award. |
