Falkland progressed to the final of the Strathmore Union 20/20 2 Counties Cup with yet another impressive display.
Falkland got off to an excellent start with a partnership of 55 in 8 overs between Rory Manson and Dougie Lawson, then Stuart Lindsay batted sensibly through to the end of the innings to help Falkland post a respectable but not a match winning total of 133.
As in the previous rounds it was Falkland's outstanding bowling and particularly the fielding which was the difference between the sides. Thomas Brunton clean bowled the dangerous LeRoux first ball, then Geordie Gallagher took a fantastic caught and bowled to remove the other opener. Euan House and Scott Meikle took excellent catches to pin Almond Valley back and 'old swinger' Oz Melville recorded the superb figures of 2 for 8 from 4 overs to win the match. It should be mentioned that groundsman Pat Watson produced a terrific wicket. Thanks also go to Almond Valley for their gritty and sporting performance and to the 2 neutral umpires who were very fair.
Falkland have been in very few finals in the club's 148 year history and this is a tremendous achievement to get so far. The opponents in the final will be either Brechin or Forthill : with the performances in this competition so far the team has nothing to fear. Bring it on! |
